Externally the B3 represented a continuation of the previous B2 and only differed in paint colours and tank badging used. However, the engine suffered major changes to deal with harsher emissions limits and continual problems with camchain tensioner reliability. These changes were implemented across the range for this year.

No changes from 1978.

Along with the engine modifications mentioned for the B3 the major changes to the C3 were the use of sintered pads and different rear caliper in order to improve wet weather braking performance.

The changes to the engines and brakes applied to the C3 were also applied to the D2 for this year.
